In August 2016, the Graca Marcel Trust announced the launch of a Pan-African platform to showcase women’s contributions and leadership on issues around the economic and social progress of women in Africa. WAA is a one-of-a-kind forum to bring together prominent women in business, investors, along with women innovators, scientists, academics, political leaders, philanthropists, civil society and global thought leaders and shapers for focused discussions on a range of pertinent issues to promote the economic advancement of African women.

- A plurality of financial institutions and systems (including alternate models) are developed, and they respond to the needs of diverse women in an inclusive manner to enable access to financial products and services as well as wealth creation
- Women occupy management and leadership positions across sectors in the economy
- Women (adults and youth) are financially savvy and have developed the capacity to engage in wealth creation
- All public, private and non-governmental institutions demonstrate commitment to change by making pledges, which lead to broad impact
- Dynamic networks are in place and they create a basis for generating opportunities for women to be supported and mentored
- Social and digital media drives the visibility of the initiative and amplifies women’s voices
