Centre for the Promotion of Imports from developing countries (CBI)
The Centre for the Promotion of Imports from developing countries (CBI) located in the Netherlands is a leading centre of knowledge and expertise on exporting from developing countries to Europe. Its mission as an expert in export is to contribute to poverty reduction and trade-led, sustainable economic development in developing countries. CBI aims to do so by measurably increasing exports from these countries to the EU/EFTA through the augmentation of the entire export value chain. Currently operating across 23 different sectors in 49 countries, the centre’s integrated approach to export promotion includes multi-disciplinary sector- and country-specific programmes and services for small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) as well as business support organisations (BSOs) and government bodies.

From its inception in 1971, CBI’s vision has been rooted in an international resolve to foster global equity as well as in the real ambitions of developing countries themselves. In over 40 years, it has provided hands-on, business-changing assistance to governments, BSOs and more than 700 SMEs a year, enabling them to raise their export turnover and create more jobs and economic stability.

SIPPO: The Swiss Import Promotion Programme (SIPPO) is a mandate of the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO). It is conducted by Osec, the official Swiss foreign trade promotion agency. SIPPO connects importers from 31 European countries with suitable suppliers of high-quality products from 18 partner countries located in Africa, Asia, Europe, and South America. The programme identifies reliable exporters within the food and non-food sector, technical products industry and sustainable tourism business.


SIPPO services include match-making activities, trade promotion trainings and consultancy to companies involved in the international trade. It is competent in organizing buyer missions for European importers to the partner countries and bringing suppliers to Europe via their participation in leading trade fairs and study tours. Additionally, SIPPO supports and cooperates with Business Support Organizations all over the world.
